Ko
Pha Ngan: Mushroom Shakes…
oh, a 'MUSHROOM' shake! Yes welcome to the full moon party (actually
it was a half moon party). A build-up party to the full on full moon
legendary party on Ko Pha Ngan. It's like the full moon but
everything is in half; about 4,000 people, half the chaos, half the
debauchery and half the drugs. Half is as much as I can stomach! (or
try to stomach)
It's a wild time and not to be missed; everyone gathers on these
pristine white sand beach for various activities including flaming
limboing, walking on coals, fire juggling (my firefighter finger
was itching all night), dancing in the surf, rave-like music, and
every hallucinogen one can think of - mushroom shake… eek! I chose the
more conventional bucket of Sangsom (rum); for 100 baht, $3.60, they
empty a mickey of rum, mixed with red bull (adrenalin energy mix) and
coke in a bucket~ it's crazy. You're gunned for under $4! I figure I'm
saving at least $70 every time I get drunk here, so I'm doing it as
much as possible, deductively I'm thinking it will pay for my trip in
no time - or not. Actually, I was so hung-over the day after,
well the day of; we drank until 6 am, with everyone else there. I
won't be doing it again for a while, too much of a waste of time and
brain cells. Although the Irish guy I'm hanging with believes it's a
totally constructive use of ones faculties - 24/7!!! Some
stereotypes hold true.
I've moved off the social mayhem of Ko Pha Ngan and currently in Krabi,
Ao Nang. I left the fearsome foursome (1 Irish lad, 2 English
lasses and one confused Swedish lesbian) of Charmed Beach Resort
behind, which was kind of sad, but my liver was ecstatic. This
place is more about adventure; rock climbing, kayaking, snorkelling,
diving. Ironic that I had a squid with mushroom and rice dish
when I arrived; the mushrooms were not magical though, and no hyper
punk faeries appeared sounding like John Madden |
